Has anyone heard any results from the meet? I hope everyone is doing well. It would be nice to hear how our U.S. Team is doing in competition.

We had lifted today in a non-air-conditioned environment in Aruba (...in June...) so it was unlike anything I've personally experienced. The warm up room was even more sauna-like than the competition area itself. Hard-core! However, I've never heard the USA National Anthem played so many times back-to-back. The USA women did very well today, bringing home an almost-entire-sweep of golds (and individual medals)!! Just a few details -- Sioux-z Hartwig-Gary broke 3 World master records and all NAPF records in the 52 kg. Jen Perry got a PR deadlift and matched her personal bests in the other lifts. I managed to break the 48 kg. NAPF bench record after finally getting somewhat used to the heat and humidity. Kimberly Walford pulled 490 old-school-style weighing a very light 165/just over 148 and got within inches of 518. Hope to see full results coming out soon. Just went out to dinner with Mitch and Brad G.; after today, Mitch is now fully acclimated to the sweltering sauna of this Carribbean island and has a good idea of what to expect, and Brad won't have any problem adjusting by Saturday either. Looking forward to the next days' worth of lifting!

Congradulation on everyone's success. I can't wait for the rest of the results when they come in. Is the last day of competition on Friday or Saturday? Hopefully sunscreen has been put to use if you went to the beach. It sounds like a sauna's paradise. Hopefully Saturday's festivities goes well before everyone leaves to go home. Don't forget to shop in Aruba before you leave!!!!!

i DONT UNDERSTAND IT!!! Year after year after year its the same story. No A/C at the venue or the A/C is not working etc etc.
We train hard, pay big money, and its always the same story. NO A/C at the venue in Central America in the summer.
We have NAPF officials that the NAPF picks up the travel expenses, make 3 or 4 trips to "check out the venue" and its always the same story. I dont think we have been there yet when the A/C worked or they even had A/C.
Lets bring all the NAPF Championships to the USA till they get it right!!!

The few times I was at a NAPF Championship the hotel rooms were always
very nice and cool.
Remember the comfort zone for some people might not be the same as for others.
I am sure if for whatever reason, if MOST of the athletes were not happy with the venue,
another might be used the next time.
It is also possible that in some of the countries, the selection of available venues might not be as large as here in the USA.
We do seem a little spoiled at times.
Just my opinion :P :

I wish you had used your name so I know who I am posting to but I think your approach to this could not miss the point more.

These meets are a lot of fun and a great excuse to go somewhere you may not go otherwise, get to lift, and hang around other lifters in a tremendously comraderie building atmosphere. Additionally it is awesome to see these coutries express enough interest in the sport to go through the trouble to host these events. I know when we were in Puerto Rico the mayor of the town was tremendously proud of what they did. Was it the best venue we have ever seen? Not even close but they pulled it together and we made it work.

What you have suggested would be profoundly discouraging and would frankly apply a standard to a lot of these coutries that would serve as an impediment to the growth of the sport in the region.

If your definition of 'getting it right' is having AC and your response would be telling them they have to travel to the US (which would likely be financially prohibitive for many) unless it is provided, you are way out in left field and are overlooking how cool it is that there is a large enough contingent in these countries that they would even consider hosting an event.

Aaron is correct. The point of the NAPF is to improve the powerlifting in Central America and the Caribean and an essential component of building national programs is to have meets in these countries. Regardless of venue, the athletes seem to enjoy competing in NAPF events. Future success of the NAPF will ensure that the USA Powerlifting has a measure of support in the IPF annual meetings. There is far more at stake here than air conditioning.

It's not spoiling lifters to put their well being and safety first. There is a lifter at this meet that is in the hospital in critical condition for the last 24 hrs due to no air conditioning and having seizures!!!

Having no ac and being hot will not give you seizures. If you're overweight and out -of- shape the heat can be a bit overwhelming. I think the ac B.S. is a lame excuse. I guess the NFL should call off games when the temp on the field gets over 105.
