We have had some interest in teams of mixed gender for the Raw Nationals. We would like a bit of input from lifters as to exactly what you would like as rules for a mixed team. (i.e: a minimum of 50% female or a minimum of 2 female, etc.) :?:

Harold,
At High School Nationals they have a combined team division. The split can be no more than 7 of one gender. So 7 vs 3 is the limit, of course 6/4 and 5/5 works just fine as well!

At the Hudson Open, Shawn Cain has done what we call the 'border battle' with MN and WI. We have a mixed bag of male/female lifters of all ages and sizes. To make things even and fair he takes the top 7 or so lifters by wilks that must include 2 women on each team. Adds them up to determain the winner.

Now I know since this is Nats you are going to likley follow more of a traditional team point format. But Shawns method has worked well and borrowing something from that might help.

Harold,
I would assume that there must be a minimum of 30% of the lifters on a combined team from a gender...

A mixed team will consist of a minimun of 2 women for this year. However, if the NGB wants to define that at this years meeting we can adjust to whatever is voted on as a federation standard.

After much discussion we have arrived at some firm rules for teams of mixed gender at the Raw Nationals. The rules may be changed for future Raw National meets but that will be decided by the Raw Committee, and the NGB per exsisting voting methods.

A quick thanks to Madvig for suggestioning mixed gender teams and to Angela Simmons for driving us to the answers we needed.

Below is a list of rules we will follow this year:

A Mixed Gender team shall consist of no more than 12 lifters with no more than 2 lifters in each weight class.

A Mixed Gender team shall consist of a minimum of 2 female and 1 male lifters.

Team members may be in any division (i.e Master, Teen, Jr, etc), or in multiple divisions, but must declare when the team roster is turned in which division will count for team points.

Point scoring shall be: 12, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, for the first 9 placing in any bodyweight category. Thereafter, each lifter who makes a total in the competition shall be awarded one point.

All teams will be given awards. In the case of a tie, the team having the largest number of first places will be ranked first. In the case of a tie between two teams having the same number of first places, the one having the most second places will be classified first, and so on through the placings.
